The "City in the Sky" (CitS) concept has existed in some form or another since around 2017. For a couple of those years, there was a plan to have it be a more honest "musical,' with different characters performed by different vocalists. More recently, it was intended to capture the entirety of the story in a two-disk album.

Despite the fact that CitS ended up only covering about half of the planned material, it still came out to be 80 minutes over the span of 13 tracks.
